Seeing the Light of a White Bathroom
For most Americans, the two most important rooms of the house are the kitchen and the bathroom. Recently, one of the more popular trends for kitchens was uniform white. While most sensible people took issue with that, one room in the house where a uniform white actually will work is none other than the bathroom. It’s largely because the bathroom provides the perfect place to contrast gloss and matte finishes, and if you add exquisite vanities to the mix, a white bathroom is one of the more interesting choices at your disposal.White Bathrooms = Extreme MinimalismWhite bathrooms offer one of the most extreme interpretations of minimalist design that have ever been known to man. Firstly, you’re working with only one color which is in fact, the absence of color. But there’s still room to play. A matte finish on the walls, contrasts nicely with the gloss finish of the sink, tub, and fixtures. But in an all-white bathroom, an extreme emphasis must be placed on reducing clutter. Otherwise, a stray toothbrush or a hairbrush can break the perfect symmetry of the white and completely ruin your Feng Shui. We all know that the bathroom is where the greatest thoughts are conceived, and nothing stirs the imagination quite like unbroken white. If something should get in there and break up that symmetry, it would ruin the entire effect.Adding TextureIf the idea of going completely white is a bit of a turnoff for you, one thing that folks that still like the idea of a white bathroom have employed is using different textures to create contrast. This can include playing with tile on the floor or walls, using muted shades of other whites to break the endless symmetry. They say that nothing is more terrifying than a blank page, so if you agree with this comment, you may want to blend in some creme toned patterns on the wall and floor.Adding DecorWhile white bathrooms aren’t known for their creativity, they offer a chance to have individual objects stand out. Investing in an antique vanity for an all-white bathroom practically creates a showcase for that particular object. In addition, ironic wall art can be useful, particularly if it’s colorful, or if you want to take the irony to a whole new level, a black and white photograph or a toilet should suffice. All white bathrooms aren’t for everyone, but they’re really one of the few rooms in the house where a unicolor motif can work, and work well. If you get sick of the white, you can always touch up the trim, sponge in some light paint, or simply reconceive it altogether. After all, a white bathroom is an empty canvas, and therein lies its appeal.
