The Next Big Thing in Kitchen Design: 2018 Edition

Have you been reading the blogs? The trends for 2018 in terms of kitchen design are spectacular, so for Utica residents planning a remodeling of their kitchen there’s a number of excellent options to choose from and bandwagons to jump on in terms of contemporary style.#1. White OutAll white kitchens have been the go to thing for modern interior designers, but this trend may be trending out. Some don’t want to drink a cup of coffee in the morning in a kitchen that looks like it could be indistinguishable from “The Light. We’re not saying this trend was the worst we’d ever seen, but this level of amorphous minimalism is not a design strategy, but the lack of one. It never really made much sense anyway. Consider the fact that kitchens have a lot of smoke in them. The last thing you want is white walls in a smoky room. It was awful from the get go; a momentary lapse of sanity. Goodbye, white kitchens. Hello color and contrast.#2. Gray UndertonesGray undertones in a matte finish are trending upward right now. While folks may be moving away from white, they haven’t moved away from bright, and gray undertones lend a sophisticated quality to lighter colors like peach and lighter purples.#3. Ornately Patterned TileThis trend has come in open rebellion of the “white kitchen”. Ornately patterned tile with bold decorative motifs are going to be a favorite in 2018, and they work well with white too.#4. Reclaimed WoodReclaimed wood is popular in general, and so it’s made its way into the kitchen now. The distressed finishes and rustic style are a great option for those that want a little personality in their kitchen, and not just a blank white canvas upon which to imagine better things.
