6 Unbelievable Kitchen Trends That Are Steaming up in 2017

Kitchen design is as prone to the whims of fashion as just about anything else, and while some of this is brought about by sheer pragmatism, much of it is born out of the creativity of designers. For Detroit residents looking for kitchen remodeling ideas, these are going to be some of the hottest as we move into 2018.#1. White Kitchens Remain Popular but…For the last decade or so Pinterest has blown up with image after image of white kitchens. While white is warm, neutral, and of course, bright, too much white can make you feel like you’re in a blank space. In 2017, white kitchens are now being augmented with darker floors, often made of natural wood or veneer, which create a great contrast to the brightness and cozies up the room a bit.#2. Gray Is Becoming Increasingly PopularWhite is far and away still the most popular color, but gray is rising through the ranks thanks to its timeless quality, and its ability to act as a solid background against other brighter colors. It’s also becoming popular to mix gray with other colors like green, to create a similar feel for those who prefer a little color in their kitchen.Black and white as a color palette is also gaining steam in today’s kitchens.#3. Tile, Glass, Brick, and Reclaimed WoodAs far as backsplashes go, each of these are becoming more and more popular. For a rustic art-deco feel, brick and reclaimed wood are extremely popular as a backsplash, but for those who want to go a bit fancier, glass or tile that has been laid out like brick is also quite popular.#4. Pecky CypressMemorize this term because it’s going to be a major player in 2017 heading into 2018. Pecky cypress is basically Cyprus that had a fungal infection. Don’t be alarmed, however, because this has only made the wood more desirable. In appearance, pecky cypress has long streaks burrowed into the graining that gives it very natural look. It works great for islands and cabinets.#5. Black AppliancesIf your kitchen is getting a little bright for your tastes, one way to throw in some contrast is to check out a whole new line of black appliances that are becoming more and more popular as the white kitchen fad settles in. If you never bought in, they’ll also look great with gray.#6. Colored SinksOne of the great things about having your kitchen mostly white is that you can play with color in other ways. One of the more popular ways is brightly hued sinks. It’s our opinion that 2018 will have a lot more brightly hued sinks than 2017 did.
